Nothing is truly finished....

In the effort to keep my lizard brain entertained I decided the stereo was lacking at highway speeds. Sure it was loud enough to entertain other people in cars at stoplights but everyone should enjoy my music riding down the highway. After searching about on HDForums.com and reading about all the different amps being used and the limited space we have in a fairing the class D amplifier was predominant although there were some pricey models being marketed as motorcycle only.

Class D amplifiers which means they are digital instead of  older style class A which have large power supplies. This means big power in small package that runs cooler, perfect for the inside of a motorcycle fairing.

Being the frugal shopper I was off to Amazon to browse. After an hour or so I came across one that should work perfect.

Amazon MB Quart

This amp should work, coming in at 200x2 at 4 ohms RMS where the Infinity head unit I'm using has 20x4 at 4 ohms RMS. A substantial improvement!

Tearing apart the fairing for the millionth time I also took the time to Dynamat the inner and outer fairing. Amplifier can be seen just above the headlight, it's about as big as a paperback book, perfect.

Unfortunately I didn't take time to document how I mounted it but I used a scrap piece of aluminum and drilled mounting holes to bolt it to the amp. Then I generously applied hot glue to the fairing and stuck it on, no movement after it cured. It definitely woke up the soundsystem although those speakers are only rated at 60watts, that will be the next upgrade I guess before I blow them. They are also a little lacking in bass so I might as well.......
